Pete Seeger, the famed American folk singer and civil rights pioneer, once said, “The easiest way to avoid wrong notes is to never open your mouth and sing. What a mistake that would be!”
Music has been inextricably intertwined with social change for millennia. From spirituals to soul, folk to funk, reggae to rock-and-roll, hip-hop to hard-core, there always has been, and always will be, a rhythm to progress, driven by artists and creators whose melodies and words reflect our collective quest for equity, justice and peace.
Assembled by all members of our team, this Spotify playlist clocks in at just under four hours, and contains dozens of songs that inspire, compel and push Kendeda’s work forward. Think of it as a soundtrack for engagement, a mix in which we hope others might also find motivation, hope and energy. Like any good music compilation, our playlist is (and always will be) a work in progress, a reflection of that ever-bending arc that is our moral universe.
There’s aspiration in these arrangements, belief in their beats, liberation in the lyrics. You may not know every song here. So lean in, listen closely, and don’t be shy about singing along. If your heart is in the right place, an occasional wrong note won’t hurt anyone.
Happy listening!
