What They Do

Through the experience of fly-fishing in Montana, Warriors and Quiet Waters (WQW) is a catalyst for positive change in the lives of post-9/11 combat veterans.

WQW helps build hope and resilience for veterans through therapeutic retreats in a secure, scenic, and restorative environment. WQW provides an all-expenses-paid week of professional fly-fishing instruction, home-cooked meals, and camaraderie to combat-wounded warriors and spouses.

WQW strengthens the effects of its program through two unique strategies:

  • The organization provides each warrior with fly-fishing equipment and professional instruction. By returning home equipped with gear, warriors are able to continue the sport independently and with confidence.
  • Every participating warrior has their own fly-fishing guide as well as a returning alumnus who serves as a companion on the trip. By partnering alumni with first-time participants, alumni have the opportunity to serve and connect with a fellow veteran experiencing similar challenges in reintegration.

What We Love

Warriors and Quiet Waters has experienced significant growth since it was founded in 2007 by a Vietnam veteran and a group of enthusiastic volunteers in Bozeman, Montana. The organization has transitioned from an all-volunteer force to a professionally staffed nonprofit, completed a long-term strategic plan, and purchased property to serve as base for its programs.

WQW is a force for good with a clear plan for continued growth and success—and we love its dedication to the healing power of nature.
