What They Do

Led by WAMU-88.5 in Washington, DC, Guns & America will report for two years on the many ways that firearms are intertwined in American life, from the cultural significance of hunting and sport shooting, to the role guns play in suicide, homicides, mass shootings and beyond. The ten station collabortion will provide accurate, fair, human-focused and nuanced reporting on the polarizing topic of firearms in our nation.

What We Love

The Guns & America project increases the capacity for in-depth reporting on a topic of deep importance in American life, and it infuses public media newsrooms across the country with reporters who will possess deep content expertise, perspective on a new generation of activists and a broad range of digital and multimedia skills.

The collaborative will provide accurate, fair, human-focused and nuanced reporting on the polarizing topic of firearms in our nation. Through creative storytelling across radio and digital platforms, the two year initiative will spur fact-based conversations on vital issues and identify common ground in different communities and generations across the country, facilitating a new kind of national conversation about guns and gun violence.
