What They Do
The Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT) has been successfully conserving land in southwest Montana for 25 years. GVLT connects people, communities, and open lands through conservation of working farms and ranches, healthy rivers, and wildlife habitat, and the creation of trails in the Montana headwaters of the Missouri and Upper Yellowstone Rivers.
Since its founding in 1990, GVLT has helped conserve over 67 square miles of land in the Gallatin Valley and the surrounding communities through voluntary conservation agreements with private landowners. Through public and private partnerships, GVLT has contributed to expanding the “Main Street to the Mountains” trail system to over 80 miles in length, providing recreation, transportation, and a connection to nature between Bozeman and the surrounding wildlands.
What We Love
GVLT has successfully worked in the Bozeman area to conserve family lands and open space for Montana residents. It has spearheaded an incredible trail system that connects downtown Bozeman with the mountains to the north and the south. GVLT’s efforts have preserved many of the Gallatin Valley’s “last best places,” and the organization also serves a critical role in providing people with opportunities to experience the outdoors.
