What They Do
The Northern Plains Resource Council (NPRC) organizes Montana citizens to protect water quality, family farms and ranches, and the unique quality of life of Montana’s rural landscapes. The “Declaring Independence from Coal” campaign is a multi-pronged effort aimed at stopping a proposed coal mine and new rail line (to transport the coal to market) in southeast Montana—and at fighting the development of new coal export facilities in Washington state.
What We Love
NPRC works at the grassroots level in communities and across Montana’s landscape. The organization’s on-the-ground tactics are not only supportive of local people, they’re extremely effective. NPRC educates community members—such as ranchers—about the threats posed by new coal development and engages them in the battle to protect Montana’s rural communities.
