What They Do
Root Capital is a nonprofit social investment fund that grows rural prosperity in poor, environmentally vulnerable places in Africa and Latin America by lending capital, delivering financial training, and strengthening market connections for small and growing agricultural businesses.
Its Women in Agriculture Initiative enhances lending products and financial advisory services to provide reliable economic opportunities for women, and to better understand how women help increase rural prosperity.
What We Love
Root Capital has layered gender inclusion into all of its lending work. The group is tracking metrics for women’s ownership, female leadership, quality of business’ gender policies, and numbers of female managers to give a fuller picture of how women fare in agricultural businesses.
