What They Do
The Commission on Homelessness, now housed at United Way, operates the Gateway, a center for matching homeless and near homeless individuals and families with valuable services. Through coordinated delivery of social work, health care, housing, counseling, job training, and other services, the center works to lift long-term homeless off the streets—permanently. The Commission on Homelessness also acts as a coordinator, partner, and evaluator of the many efforts by nonprofits on this issue.
What We Love
The Commission on Homelessness takes a proactive approach to solving the problem of homelessness, one individual at a time. Its methods go well beyond shelter, soup, and blankets and instead seek long-term solutions. Through both timely interventions and people-oriented services, the Commission on Homelessness works in a thoughtful and concerted manner to care for Atlanta’s vulnerable populations.
