What They Do
Wildlife Conservation Society’s Iinnii Initiative is a partnership with the Blackfeet people that seeks to restore bison to the amazing landscape of the Blackfoot Confederacy, which spans the US-Canadian border. The Innii Initiative is working with the Blackfeet People to develop a new vision for conservation of spectacular wildlands along the Rocky Mountain Front, sustaining their Blackfeet culture, and creating a homeland for innii (bison).
What We Love
The Wildlife Conservation Society has formed a unique and collaborative partnership with the Blackfeet people. The Initiative unites people and nature in a shared and mutually beneficial vision of sustainability. The plan for bison restoration improves the ecology of the prairie grasslands and reconnects the Blackfeet tribe to the bison culturally and spiritually—as well as providing new economic opportunities for local communities through nature-based businesses.
